The Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme is a special initiative of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for students of the North Eastern Region (NER). Ishan Uday Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, students must fulfill the following conditions:

• Domicile: Must belong to any of the NER states.
• Educational Qualification: Must have passed Class XII or equivalent exam from a school within NER recognized by CBSE, ICSE, NIOS, or any state board.
• Institute Type: Must be admitted to any of the following:
  • Universities/Colleges under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act
  • Deemed-to-be Universities under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956
  • Central/State Government-funded institutions
  • Institutes of National Importance
  • Statutory Council–recognized Institutions
• Course Level: Only first-year undergraduate students are eligible.
• Family Income: Parental income should not exceed ₹4.5 lakh per annum.
• Reservation: Transgender and PwD candidates are eligible as per Government of India norms.

Ishan Uday Scholarship Amount

• ₹5,400 per month for General Degree Courses
• ₹7,800 per month for Technical, Professional, Medical, and Paramedical Courses
• Amounts are disbursed directly to the student’s bank account via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

Exclusions

Students are not eligible if they:

1. Pursue courses through Open Universities.
2. Already receive another scholarship for the same UG program.
3. Gained admission under Management Quota.
4. Are pursuing Diploma courses not leading to a degree.
5. Have family income above ₹4.5 lakh per annum.

Selection Process

• 10,000 scholarships are awarded every year.
• Distribution among states is based on population census.
• Vacant slots are reallocated to other NER states.
• Reservation for PwD candidates as per central norms.

Duration and Renewal

• Scholarship continues for the entire duration of the first degree course (for integrated courses as well).
• Renewal depends on good conduct and satisfactory progress.
• Annual progress report must be submitted by the college/university.
• If a student changes course or fails a year, the scholarship will be forfeited.
